Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of the website. Accessing a page, reading its content, or starting a search signifies acceptance of every term below. Anyone who does not agree must stop using the site.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no connection to a local, state, or federal government body. The site and its advertising partners do not provide services for credit decisions, employment screening, tenant evaluation, insurance underwriting, or any other activity regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to help readers locate criminal-record resources for Chatham County and North Carolina. It is neither a private investigation business nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site operated independently from government. It does not keep official criminal records, submit documents on a user’s behalf, retrieve agency files, or perform official background checks.

The site directs readers to custodians of Chatham County criminal records, including Sheriff Records, the state courts, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. It may also connect readers with outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of the site is conditioned on an agreement not to:

  • Use the site in violation of federal, state, or local law
  • Threaten, stalk, or harass a person with information found here
  • Rely on site content for employment, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or restricted area
  • Deploy bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools against these pages
  • Interfere with site performance or prevent another person from using it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No one may use information obtained here or through a linked tool to threaten, intimidate, harass, stalk, or discriminate against another person. Such conduct may also violate the law. This restriction is especially important for the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. North Carolina limits misuse of registry information, and unlawful conduct directed at a registrant can carry criminal penalties. Registry access supports public safety awareness, not vigilantism, workplace blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. It does not create credit reports, background checks, or any other consumer report. Its advertising partners likewise do not offer tools intended to assess creditworthiness, set insurance rates, review rental applications, or screen applicants for work. Information from the site or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Evaluate a person for employment or termination
  • Assess a rental or housing application
  • Set an insurance premium or determine creditworthiness
  • Decide eligibility for a permit, license, or government program
  • Carry out any other activity governed by the FCRA

A check needed for a regulated purpose must come from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation when that official channel applies, or from a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is not legal advice. General descriptions of Chatham County criminal records cannot determine how a warrant, charge, conviction, or expunction rule affects a particular matter. Obtain advice from a lawyer licensed in North Carolina.

6. No Warranties

All material is supplied “as is.” No guarantee is made that:

  • The pages contain no mistakes, bugs, or security weaknesses
  • Information will always be current, complete, and accurate
  • Partner search results will be comprehensive or correct
  • The site will remain available without interruption

Criminal records change as charges are filed or dismissed and as records are sealed or expunged. Updates can lag, and gaps can occur. No statement on the site should be treated as an official statement from a sheriff, court, or other government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to sheriff websites, court portals, North Carolina agencies, legal-aid organizations, or outside search services. Following a link opens a service outside this site’s control. Responsibility is disclaimed for an outside service’s content, availability, data practices, and charges. Review that provider’s own terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Chatham County Criminal History or its content partners own the site’s text, graphics, logos, and code. Written permission is required before copying, modifying, distributing, or creating derivative work from that material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, liability is disclaimed for damages arising from site use, including a decision based on information obtained here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

Users agree to hold the site harmless from a claim, demand, or legal action caused by their site use or breach of these terms, including associated legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

North Carolina law governs these terms. A dispute connected with use of the site must be brought in a court located in North Carolina.

12. Changes to These Terms

The terms may be revised at any time. A revision takes effect when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in force. The affected term will be modified only to the extent needed for enforcement.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be directed through the Contact page.
